Lesson goal

Learn key poses, spacing and timing through a simple object.

Practice project: Paper Crane at the Rain Stop

Plan an original 30-second scene: one adult gives a paper crane to another adult waiting for a bus; both look toward the newly lit stop sign. Use one location, two people and one prop, without existing anime characters. Six shots last 4, 6, 5, 5, 6 and 4 seconds.

Practical steps

  1. Create a short timeline in Krita, OpenToonz or Pencil2D. Draw the crane leaning left, centered and leaning right.
  2. Use onion skin to add in-betweens while keeping its apparent volume stable.
  3. Preview a small test at 12 frames per second, then adjust holds; recheck sound whenever playback speed changes.
  4. Compare colors and silhouettes with the reference sheet and loop the result to inspect the join.

Deliverable and checks

Deliver a two-second loop, source file and frame-rate note. These are practice settings, not platform standards. Move to character acting after learning the timing.
