Safer China Sourcing: Link Payments to Verifiable Milestones

How deposits, samples, inspections and shipment documents can be structured into a more controlled buying process.

How deposits, samples, inspections and shipment documents can be structured into a more controlled buying process.

Start with the decision, not the document

Before asking for a background check or inspection, define the decision you are trying to make: whether to engage the supplier, pay a deposit, approve production, release a balance or accept a shipment. This keeps the check focused on evidence that can change the decision.

Separate claims from evidence

Supplier websites, marketplace profiles and sales messages are useful leads but are not independent proof. Compare legal identity, contracting entity, payment beneficiary, addresses, production claims, certifications and product capability. Record unresolved mismatches instead of explaining them away.

Use layered controls

For meaningful orders, due diligence works best with a written specification, controlled payment milestones, approved samples, production follow-up and pre-shipment inspection. No single check can replace the rest of the buying process.
